Founded in 2007 by Matt Cross, The Tart Tin Boutique Bakehouse prides itself on using local ingredients and seasonal produce to create high quality tarts, cakes and other goodies.
Heya, Matt here. After being a chef for over 13 years and working around the world, I heard the siren call of the deep south once again and returned home to Dunedin in the search for better waves, warmer smiles and a slice of the sweet life.
I had always had a passion for the sweeter side of the menu and decided to dedicate my focus to that, starting The Tart Tin in 2007, selling my slices, tarts and cakes on a trestle table with a roughly spray painted logo on pizza boxes at The Otago Farmers Market.
Fast forward 11 years and you'll still find me at the Farmers Market every Saturday, now in 'Minty' the caravan, selling an extensive range of treats to Dunedin's early birds.
I love Dunedin, its people and its relaxed way of life. The Otago Farmers Market pulls all these elements together and is a highlight of my week.
We have a large menu of options available at the market including:
- Doughnuts, cookies, cupcakes, loaves, baby berry pies, tarts (slices and whole), pieces of cake, caramel slab, birdie bars, brownie, macarons, almond rochers, caramel popcorn and more... but get in quick, we sell out fast!
My commercial kitchen is based in St Clair (close to the surf!), where I bake wholesale to cafes, market preparation and custom orders for weddings, birthdays and other events.
When not at work, you can normally find me in one of Dunedin's many awesome surf breaks, off on my annual overseas surf mission or chilling with the newest love of my life - our daughter Bodhi.
It's awesome to be be able to now offer this website to display my bakery menu, for online book and merchandise orders and as a way for you to get in touch for any special requests. Stay tuned for new updates coming soon, including online bakery orders and exciting news for the future of The Tart Tin.
