Founded in 2007 by Matt Cross, The Tart Tin Bakery prides itself on using local ingredients and seasonal produce to create high quality tarts, cakes and other goodies.
Heya, Matt here. After being a chef for over 15 years and working around the world, I heard the siren call of the deep south once again and returned home to Dunedin in the search for better waves, warmer smiles and a slice of the sweet life.
I had always had a passion for the sweeter side of the menu and decided to dedicate my focus to that. I started The Tart Tin in 2007 down at the The Otago Farmers Market with nothing but a trestle table & a couple of plates of baking, slowly building my little dream from the ground up. This progressed to 'Minty' the caravan, selling an extensive range of treats to Dunedin's early birds.
Then in 2019, the time came to farewell the market and convert 'Minty' back into a surf wagon. While my market days are behind me, you can now find us just around the corner at The Tart Tin Kitchen based in the warehouse precinct of Dunedin! Here you can come to collect your online and custom orders throughout the week. We also open every Wednesday and Friday to the public from 7am with all the goodies and hot drinks you need to get you through your hump day.
We have offer a large menu of options including:
- Doughnuts, cookies, cupcakes, loaves, baby berry pies, tarts (slices and whole), pieces of cake, caramel slab, birdie bars, brownie, macarons, almond rochers, caramel popcorn and more... but get in quick, we sell out fast!
When not at work, you can normally find me in one of Dunedin's many awesome surf breaks, off on my annual overseas surf mission or chilling with the newest love of my life - our daughter Bodhi.
It's awesome to be be able to now offer this website for online orders of selected cakes, tarts and party packs, as well as for online book and merchandise orders or to get in touch for any special requests.
